What Happens in Vegas...

...is actually pretty boring, really. After being told we would be in the Reno area through the weekend, Lithus came home Monday evening and said we were heading to Vegas for the week. A one day consrtuction job on Wednesday followed by a day or two on the same construction site Sunday or Monday (those that are coming up). So, he flew; I rented a car. He came straight to Henderson, NV. I got to spend the night in Beatty, The Gateway to Death Valley next to Nevada's Largest Nut and Candy Shop! Because really, who wants to miss that?

Now I can say that I've wandered the Strip, seen the fountain show at the Bellagio and eaten at the Harley Davidson Cafe. We went through the Freemont Experience and had wicked strong drinks in Hugo's Cellar. Tonight, we are hoping to catch a drag show.

But the truth is, I'm underwhelmed. Maybe it's because I don't gamble. Maybe it's because I don't like tourist traps. But should you find yourself out here, I would really seriously suggest you opt out of the Strip and head to Henderson. Remedy's is open 24 hours a day. The movie theatre is quite nice. And the Omelet House is worth the drive from Reno, let alone from Vegas.

But my favorite part of Vegas or Henderson? This very misplaced Bostonian is less than two miles away from a Dunkin Donuts. For this week at least. :)

Those are Pobble Thoughts. That and a buck fifty will get you a (Dunkin Donuts iced) coffee.

I am always reminded of this when I hear someone use that word. If it is a word. I know it's not 'cause I loke dit up. That's one of the skills that I learned in my school. When I was young.

P.S. I found one of your novels. Looking forward to reading my first romance.

GOML, I love that song!

Vegas is one place I feel like I need to check off my list, but don't feel a real driving need to see. But it's cool that you got to see it and be underwhelmed. At least you know things about it that you didn't before. I hope you got to see the drag show and enjoyed it, and I hope you enjoyed the time with Lithus, too.

Dunkin' Donuts is soooooooo much better than Starbucks.

My first ever visit to Vegas was last December, for my wife's company party. To use my Dad's phrase, "I never lost anything there."

Ah, Henderson, NV. Where I lost $700 of someone else's money. Good times.

(and my word verification is "loust" Yes, I lost the money and yes I felt like a louse and so we have LOUST. I may just have to use that word IRL.)

Yeah you're not alone in this.

I always wondered what I would do in Vegas. I don't drink, I don't gamble, so there would be nothing for me to do except people watch.

So definitely with you.

GOML! ~ lol I look forward to hearing about your first romance novel. ;)

Cracker Lilo ~ Vegas is one of those places that everyone should probably see. Although note the probably. I also think it would be a good place to *plan* to go, as opposed to find yourself unexpectedly (unless you happen to find yourself there unexpectedly with a buttload of cash ~ which, in case you hadn't put this together, wasn't our situation). And yes, Dunkin beats Starbucks Every Single Day. Always.

M Christie ~ I think I may have to borrow your dad's phrase. It's subtle yet telling.

Nemeria ~ OUCH! Yes, I can see why a return to Henderson might not be high on your list, even for the Omlete House.

Neo-Prodigy ~ I'd actually like to go back on an actual, planned vacation. Stay at one of the hoo-hah hotels, get tickets to the great shows, ride the thrill rides...see if it has any more appeal then. It really does seem to be a place that is totally dependent upon your willingness to be touristy. However, the art gallery in the Bellagio is wonderful and the people watching was a trip.

The other name is "Lost Wages".

Passed through twice. Once for the Computer Show (when it was the really BIG computer show)when all the stage shows went dark for the week because computer nerds don't spend that kind of money. Then again on the way to and from running the Colorado through the Grand Canyon in a dory. If you leave the town, either by light plane to fly over the Canyon (one of my indulgences) or by car toward the north and the red rock country, it is much less touristy.
