BLOGLIGHT!

Here's the deal ~ Graziella loves her three greyhounds even more than I love Lionel and Daisy and you all know what that means. She cannot take them with her for this new job but she doesn't want to give them up, either. All of them were placed with friends and family who were willing to foster them for the ten months ~ until today when two people backed out on her.

Is anybody willing/able to foster a greyhound for ten months? They are amazingly well behaved, housebroken and really, really good babies. She can send money every month for food and checkups. And will come and take them once this job is done so you aren't looking at a lifetime commitment.

I don't know if any of you can do this. If you can't, really, it's okay. But if you can... Let me know. My email's on here.

Many thanks from all of us.

It's the Little Things

~ having groceries delivered when it's really, really cold out
~ craving something specific and realizing it's actually in the pantry
~ starting the day with an email saying "hi"
~ the feel of Lionel and Daisy as they snuggle in to join the nap
~ losing myself for an hour in a well-written scene

Yeah. Life is good.

YAY...but...

Graziella got her dream job! It's outdoorsy! It's earthy-crunchy! It's birdy! It's in Utah!

Wait...what?

Now, I knew she was applying for these jobs. Hell, I wrote her damn cover letters. And I knew she would get one of these jobs. I have that much faith in her. But it hadn't really hit ~ until now. She's actually and for real...going away.

Ah, the wonderful human condition of being able to feel completely contrary emotions in the exact same strength at the exact same time. God, I'm proud of her.

Congratulations, my dear, dear friend. You will be missed.

*sniff*

I put Lithus on the plane today. He was supposed to leave last Thursday. Ended up not leaving until today. The roll-my-eyes-at-myself moment came today at the airport. When he checked in, we discovered his 2:30 flight had been cancelled. They put him on a 1:40 flight but he had to go through security right now. But we were supposed to have another hour...We were going to get another cup of coffee... At this point, my little Gestalt Observer started making gagging noises so I got over myself.

It was good. We danced at the club and in the kitchen. We cooked and laughed and grumbled at each other during pre-coffee morning moments. And Lionel and Daisy head for his lap as often as they head for mine.

Tomorrow, I will change the sheets, wash the coffee mug he used this morning, and close the windows he left open on the computer. But not tonight. Because it's nice to know he was actually here. And that there's plenty of time for us to get another cup of coffee.

Small Favors

Recognizing that the mop must signify something rare and important is happening, Lionel and Daisy have desisted from peeing on my newly clean kitchen floors. Unless, of course, I just jinxed it. ;)

And now, I'm off to the airport.

I would giggle if it weren't so un-Pobble-ish.

The Offer I Couldn't Refuse

Back in December when things were so bad, I wrote that I had given notice at work. And then they made me the proverbial offer. While it didn't involve a kiss from a large Italian man or a horse head on my pillow, it was just as persuasive. So guess what I did today? I went back to work.

Here's the contract: 2 days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday), 8 hours a day; a lessening of my duties since my hours are being cut; no decrease in pay; and, the final clincher ~ the flexibility to call in when I am writing or on a tight deadline so long as it doesn't affect my work there.

How could I say no? In some strange, warped, masochistic way, it was good to be back.

A Visit from Lithus

Lithus arrives on Thursday. *giggle* This will be the first time I have allowed a man who is more than a platonic friend into my home here in Worcester. See, I have this rule ~ no one comes into my space. With the other men I've casually dated or (and let's be really honest here) just been having sex with (edited for Dreamer, I admit), I went to them. The thought of someone relaxing on my couch, snuggling with my babies or noodling around my kitchen...Nope. Until now. Until Lithus.

Now, I'm excited and terrified and delighted. The funniest part is trying to balance the cleaning with the honesty. That's what has me the most stressed. I want him to see how I live...but maybe not exactly how I live. Clean dishes: check. Mop floors: check. Neat desk: no way in hell. Laundry put away: undecided. Objectively, I'm amused at my nervousness. If it were anyone else, it would be downright funny.

Lionel, Daisy and I have had a long conversation about the fact that they cannot take up 3/4 of the bed while he's here. That, although I am willing to squinch myself into the corner for their comfort, two of us with opposable thumbs and a body weight greater than 13 pounds really need to have at least half the bed. They are unamused and will probably rebel. At this point, I'm just hoping they take over one side of the bed instead of wanting the half that runs down the middle.

The Pobble as Switzerland

I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. Seriously. And that's a tough thing to admit these days. But I have been a Cowboys fan since the early '70s and the days of Bear Bryant, Roger Staubach and Danny White. Through the season where they won one ~ yes, one ~ game in an entire season, thus proving they weren't even consistent enough to be totally dreadful. Into the era of the Triplets ~ Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin ~ and through it as all three men began to slow down, as it was no longer okay for the Cowboys to be down 10 at the two minute warning. Through the weird time where Jerry Jones tried to coach by hiring puppets to now, with the Tuna and T.O. No one team, one player or one coach will ever cause me to cease being a Cowboy fan. It's about the franchise not any specific team.

So, aside from them not being able to kick a simple field goal, what's the problem? Let's start with the fact that Lithus is from Seattle. But that's not so bad because the Cowboys and the Seahawks meeting up is kinda fluky ~ and Lithus doesn't follow sports anyway. But then there's the Grill Master.

Not only is the Grill Master an avid, rabid Giants fan, but he loathes ~ loathes ~ the Eagles. Loathes.

And Tom Cat and the Lovely Cats. Eagles fans, both. Avid. Perhaps not rabid but definitely avid.

And here I sit. With the game on my radio. Staying very, very neutral and keeping very, very quiet.

Whew

Seriously, how much did that suck? Those are definitely five weeks I don't need to live over again any time soon. Too much time has passed for me to say everything I wanted to say, thought about saying and needed to say during those times so let me say this instead:

* Happy 2007 to everyone;
* Thank you for your support;
* I'm sorry I wasn't there for some of you while you went through your own rough times;
* Everyone should have friends like the Lovely Cats, Graziella and the Divine M. That is my wish for you;
* I'm back. :)
