Life With Timber

I am adjusting to being a step-thingy and to having a step-thingy. Although it is an adjustment. We had our first afternoon/evening together without Lithus this week.

Me: Any homework tonight?
Timber: No, but I do have a math test tomorrow that I need help studying for.
Me: (externally) Okay, let's take a look at it and see what we can do.
Me: (internally) FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Timber: I have a song I want you to hear.
Me: Okay.
Timber puts on the song "Geeks in Love"
Me: Cool song.
Timber: Yeah, it reminds me of you and my dad.
Me: (laughing) Thanks.
Timber: I'm planning on playing it at your wedding.
Me: (externally) Oh really? Think there's gonna be a wedding, huh?
Me: (internally) FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please, Goddess, let my internal monologue stay internal.

Those are Pobble Thoughts. That and a buck fifty will get you coffee.

Math is evil, I'm convinced.

Kids certainly have a way with words, don't they? Of course, he could have just been fishing for info. Could be he just wanted to know if YOU thought there was gonna be a wedding. They're sneaky little creatures.

Oh sweet Jebus. I have had so very many step-thingies in my life and it was never easy for either side.

Don't try to be a 'good' step-thingy'. Just be yourself and say "fuck you" to all the advice-givers... Including me... ok, I just screwed myself, didn't I? Oops...

definitely have to come up with a betterword than "thingy". i'll probably be up all night working on that one...

oooh, how 'bout step geek?

ok, i'm still thinking

Jaded ~ Math IS evil. You are correct. And going 2 or 2 because they are indeed sneaky little creatures.

D-Man ~ All I *can* do is be myself, at any time and in any place. I stopped *trying* to be anything else a long (LONG) time ago ~ and am FAR happier for it!

Lovely Cats ~ Nemeria suggested "step-MILF" but that one makes Lithus a little nervous, for obvious reasons. ROFL And I don't think I'm enough of a geek to qualify for step-geek status. Hm... Let me know what else you come up with.

You are a great 'step-thingy' I'm sure! I do love Step-Geek though! hehehehehe

I was once forced to explain what a MILF was to my brother-in-law, after the term was applied to me in jest by another. Uncomfortable? Si.

Can you be a step-diva? Or a step-muse? I like step-geek, too, but I feel you embody so much more that mere mortal geekiness.

I LOVE your internal monologue, it sounds much like mine!

Step-goddess?
Step-diva? (I like this one, personally- kudos to kimber)

Anonymous ~ ROFLMAO! As always. It never gets old.

Traci ~ Thanks!

Kimber ~ oooo! That one made me cringe just *hearing* about it! I LOVE step-diva. And the compliment made me blush. Thanks.

Tai ~ I'm learning you and I think a lot alike. ;)

Jaded ~ Yes, Kimber the Wolfgrrrl gets BIG points for step-diva. Now if I can just start getting Timber to introduce me that way. Hm...

Ha. I'm frequently on edge that my internal monologue might have been externalized, although it's always a great feeling when you realize it's still all inside you.

As one who has step family and half siblings all over the map, I'd like to suggest something. Try to get rid of the word STEP somehow. Unless you have an attachment to it? I always hated it and my Step Dad just became my Dad, my step brothers my brothers and half sisters my sisters. I hated the qualifiers. But then again, there were actual marriages involved and there was nothing but first name calling when it was in the dating stage.

"And you are?"
"I am Timber's MITGAP"

Mom in Training, Guardian (or Guide) and Protector!

Something like that!

Graziella ~ Bite your tongue.

$$ ~ It's amazing how much better I've gotten at keeping my internal monologue just that!

Zooom ~ I have no connection to the "step" part of it. Timber is old enough, however, that I cannot envision him ever wanting to or being comfortable with calling me "Mom." In this case, the label is more about convenience than anything else.

I've had that same, well, conflict between my internal and external voice when confronted with my TutorKid's homework. :-)

I love kids. Their mental filters are just getting installed, so what you see is what you get!
