Living History

Oh friends, I can hardly see straight. Obama/Biden. McCain/Palin. I am aquiver. With more respect than I can verbalize to Geraldine Ferraro, something's going to change in this election. There is no out. There is no safe choice. However this country votes this time, it's different.

People are saying that the choice of Palin is a knee-jerk reaction. That McCain doesn't really want a woman vice president. He only wants to shake things up, to court the Clinton voters who are too put out by the system to vote for Obama. You know what? I don't care.

People are saying that the choice of a female vice president was strictly politically motivated. Oh Come On, People! They are politicians for God's sake! Every single decision they make and word they utter and phrase they turn is politically motivated. It may be sincere, too. It's not an either-or situation. Just don't fool yourself, even when it is sincere, even when it is heartfelt, it's politically motivated, too. If your name is McCain, Palin, Clinton, Biden or Obama.

You think the Biden choice wasn't politically motivated? He's older, has more experience, is recognized as one of the top foreign policy thinkers in the country and has the safety of being white for those voters who are indeed, no matter how much we all try to pretend otherwise, nervous about Obama's race. Obama may also be lucky enough to be really, sincerely excited to have Joe Biden by his side. And it was a politically motivated move, too.

Generally speaking, I care a great deal about motive. Why you are doing something means as much to me as that you are doing something. You know what? Not this time. This time, I could care less what the motivation is. Knee-jerk reaction; insincere politics; political expediency. Don't care.

It's history. It's here.

By God, whoever wins had better deliver. That's what I care about.

Those are Pobble Thoughts. That and a buck fifty will get you coffee.

Hearts aflutter, indeed!! What an incredible time in history to be alive! And you are (as usual) right on the money regarding motivation and how immaterial it is... regardless of our politics, we as a people have risen to the occasion and we will have change - dramatic, history-making, exciting change. Yes. We. Will.

Yes.
"However this country votes this time, it's different."
It's hard to absorb how significant that really is!

Crow Mother ~ Perhaps every generation feels this same way but, wow, we've seen it, haven't we?

MikeC ~ It is difficult to absorb. Wonderful, awe-inspiring and just a little frightening.

I hate this election crap right now.

I think that Sarah Palin was a brilliant choice on McCain's part. And the rare high-level political woman whose husband is not in politics.

However, I hope voters get that this is a pro-life, pro-creationism, very conservative woman--I don't think this is a woman I want to see in office.

Unfortunately, McCain/Palin will "deliver" more of the same... McC has voted with Bush 90% of the time, on key issues like Iraq and the economy. He has stated more than once that he thinks the current economic policies are good for the nation. He and Palin both want to have Roe v.Wade overturned. McC is pro-war and has made comments in public that we need to be in Iraq until at least 2013, because we can "win" by then.

I'm not saying that Obama is the answer to all that ails us as a nation. I'm merely stating that McCain and his cronies are the ones who got us sick in the first place.

Palin posed for Vogue. She and all her daughters. She's beautiful. I like her, a lot. Yes, she definitely has some issues that I don't agree with but she has definitely done some things that are commendable. You know, it's hard for a politician to stand up for what they believe in and not be black balled...By and by, I need to look up absentee voting....

Traci ~ That's one of the joys of the system. You don't *have* to participate or care.

Moonraven ~ First, welcome to Pobble Thougts! It's always nice to see a new name here. Second, I agree 100%.

Jersey Girl ~ Yes. Not the topic of *this* post...and still, yes.

Dreamer ~ This is being asked honestly and not in the least bit angrily or accusatorily: What about her causes you to like her a lot besides being beautiful? I'm interested in knowing what issues you have in common. (Seriously)
