Lionel and Daisy!
Meet the Babies! These are Lionel and Daisy. Lionel is the thinner one (on the left) and Daisy is the Rubenesque of the two. They joined the family yesterday after being driven to New York from Virginia. The not-ex-friend and I drove down and I fell in love before we had ever left the parking lot. Lionel is 13 and Daisy is 12 but in their hearts they are still about three ~ and have wings. Why do I say this? Because they love to jump onto the couch. And off the couch. And onto the bed. And off the bed. And onto the loveseat... You get the idea. No surface is too high. No floor too low. When I see them about to leap, I intervene and help them up or down. When I see them. That's the key phrase. They're fast little buggers.
Lionel co-opted a pillow that hadn't gotten put away since the move. Daisy has decided that my feet make a great head rest while I write. And both love being under the blankets at night.
The last dogs I had were a great pyrenees and a saint bernard. Now, in case you don't know, these are BIG dogs. I mean, at one point, I had 300 pounds worth of dog in my house. Well, Lionel or Daisy had an accident this morning. Not unexpected from senior dogs. This "accident" was tiny. At least compared to what I'm used to. Let's face it ~ pyrs and saints have poops the size of dachshunds! Obviously, I'm not going to encourage them shitting all over the house. And, it's nice to know that one missed signal doesn't end up taking over the kitchen. They love riding in the Pobble Mobile. I can see us now, cruising from book signing to book signing.
The thing I find sad, and yet am most grateful for, is that they were considered unadoptable at the rescue organization. The DRNA (dachshund rescue of north america) were still trying, don't get me wrong. But no one wanted them. They were too old. They had to be adopted out together. They weren't 100% housebroken. On and on and on. So, through sheer luck and other people's shortsightedness, I have the two greatest dogs (okay, the greatest dachshunds, out of respect for a couple pugs in Florida I know) currently on the planet.
Expect to hear more about them. Expect to see more pictures. They are my babies and I love them. And please, if you are not able to keep a pet, find a rescue organization, don't just send it to a shelter. And if you are looking for a pet, please consider a rescue organization. My babies and I thank you.
Those are Pobble Thoughts. That and a buck fifty will get you coffee.

Merlin and Isabella send feline greetings to Lionel and Daisy!! I can't wait to meet the cutie-pies in person!
(You know, I think Merlin and Isabella are probably bigger than Lionel and Daisy. That's just too cute!!!!)
Please tell me you drove to NY to get these babies and NOT to VA...because if you came to VA to pick up two puppies and DID NOT call me, I would have to throw a tizzy of somekind.
Cute babies. I like older dogs, too. I can't do any pets right now--too many people pets already in this house. Five yrs old, 14 months old TODAY! and the big pet, the 34 yr old!
All is well. Pics of my babies to follow soon. The Baby Girl made herself and "American Idol" contestant number paper and taped it on her shirt last night and she sang during EVERY commerical. The Baby Boy's newest fun thing is running around in the wrestling head gear we confiscated from school and the miniature wrestling singlet that Daddy got for him.
SHEESH! You gotta love it. Wait till you see the pics!
Love & Miss You--
Kiss the Babies for me!
The One in VA
And don't forget a couple of Corgies you know, too!
I LOVE dachshunds! But Mr. Jaded doesn't like little dogs, so we compromised. A Corgi has short legs and a long body like a dachshund, but they're a tad bigger.
What a great mommy you are to them!!
To reiterate what Traci said ~ yes! It is vital to a doxie's health to keep them from jumping! Know this if you have or are thinking about a dachshund. And, Traci, to reassure you ~ I have already ordered three ramps for the various pieces of furniture so even when I don't catch them in the act, they will be safe! All three of us thank you for your concern.
Why is this man smiling?
I am so very happy for you and much happier for Lionel and Daisy...... you've all found the love you deserve!
The pictures are wonderful, and yes please try to keep them from jumping!
I wish you the very best, as always!
Doggies under the sheets..... almost kept me from coming to work today. It was just so warm and comfy under those covers!
Congrats on the addition to the Pobble family!
Blue Dog loves them!
Congratulations on your new fur-babies!!!! :-)
Your babies are lovely! Welcome to Lionel and Daisy!
I have to say I like adopting older animals. The animal shelter people are usually so grateful and amazed, but really, you know exactly what kind of animal you're getting which is a huge plus.
Although I'm a cat person (I'm a dog person if I'm at a dog person's house because I love to own dogs vicariously), I would never adopt a kitten...heavens! You never know what you're getting!
Give me a fat old lap cat any day. :)
My baby's of the feline persuasion too, but I always figured when I'm ready for a dog, it'll be a dachshund.
Even though it makes perfect sense, I had no idea about the jumping; Traci's story breaks my heart. Reiterates that when I'm ready, I'm going to need doggie school.
Perhaps they'll be doing books themselves in the future!
