Sunday Poll Question

For someone who doesn't consider this a thinking blog, I earned the award this last week, huh? So, in light of that, today's Poll Question will be a fun, unthinky one. Just enjoy it. Because the posts I've got stewing on the back burner may take us back to thinky! Or they may just end up me ranting, who knows. :) Anway, enjoy.

Question: What character from literature, cinema or television do you most identify with and why? (And yes, this assumes fictional characters are actually live people, not a culmination of several different writers. Go with it; it's fun!)

Pobble Answer: I have to go with two ~

Han Solo from Star Wars (with a nod to Michael ~ ah, Sunday male beauty!)

and Zoe from Firefly and Serenity (can you say Sunday female beauty? I knew you could!)

I don't claim to look like either of them ~ although I wouldn't complain if I did (don't complain that I don't, either, but that's a different post.) The point is, I can relate to these two. They have a strong sense of honor, duty and loyalty ~ to those for whom they have it. They are willing to follow ~ but neither blindly nor silently and only those who have proven themselves worth following. They are sidekicks ~ and their own people. So, yeah, in the great "which character are you" debate, I'm Han and Zoe. For all those reasons and more.

Or maybe I just like the idea of flying around with big guns wearing a really great leather vest.

That's always a possibility, too. :)

Your answer...

Those are Pobble Thoughts. That and a buck fifty will get you coffee.

First off, I still have a big huge crush on Han Solo that has stayed with me since I was five.

Secondly, Zoe. Yep, that's where the name came from.

And now, to answer your question:

I'm perky, and chipper, and morbidly twisted, and I wear a lot of ankhs. There's really only one choice for me.....Neil Gaiman's Death. :D

I'm gonna have to answer this from a different perspective. I don't know who I really "identify" with necessarily, although I have found myself watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" and thinking "This is my life" on more than one occasions. I also felt that way about Grace from Will and Grace from time to time.

However, I have always wanted to play the roles of Esther from Meet Me In St. Louis, which is one of my all time favorite films. And I really could see myself playing Mrs. Weasley from Harry Potter. Oh, and I'd also love to be able to play Evita in the stage version, not the crappy movie version. I'd also like to play Mama Rose in Gypsy. I've played the role before, but I was too young and couldn't have done it justice. I know I'd be much better now. These are all strong, powerful women in their own unique ways. They're all feisty and smart, although they're not all "good." Hope that counts!

(chuckle)

Somebody close to me once told me that I most reminded them of Vincent from the television series Beauty and the Beast.

Knowing me as well as you do, what do you think pobble?

Wolfgrrrl ~ okay, your kid's cool quotient (which was high to begin with) just went up even higher. And Death...LOVE IT! :D

Jaded ~ "this is my life" counts. lol as for which role we'd like to play, that sounds like a great game for the two of us some night!

TLBL ~ Confession time...I have no idea who Vincent is. Never saw the show. Can't hold an opinion. Sorry.

Traci ~ Just so long as you Do get back to me. *cough$$cough*

Hi Pobble

I loved Zoe in Firefly and Serenity. Why were all the female characters so cool and the guys all dorks? I suppose if I had to pick one and it's not easy for me since I really don't identify with anu character fact or fiction, I would have to pick Saltheart Foamfollower from the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant: The Unbeliever. It would take too long to explain, suffice it to say he always did what had to be done no matter what the cost, and no, I don't expect you to know who he is either....

i thought i wasn't going to have to think on this one...

i guess it would have to be morgan la fey, but the marion zimmer bradley version from the mists of avalon... and not from the made for tv version either (though it wasn't half bad.)

oh and tlbl, i know exactly the character you are talking about. i used to love that show!

Hawkeye Pierce, from M*A*S*H

Manage to laugh in the face of adversity, and yet fear that I'll be him in the last episode.

Excellent choices (both are very solid and hard to argue with).

This is a tough one, but I'll go with Kevin Costner in Bull Durham and Danny Deck from All My Friends Are Going To Be Strangers by Larry McMurtry.

Tough to narrow this down.

Tough to beat Han Solo. My wife would leave me for him and so she has said on many occasions. So I can't abide the man's company.
I'd have to go with Croaker from Glen Cook's Black Company series. Grumpy, sarcastic and worried while he writes down everything that happens.

this is hard. But I have been compared to several talk show hostess because of my gift I suppose for gabbing. But I can't think of anyone....

I've been thinking and thinking and I simply can't think of one person, real or fictional, that I identify with. This combined with the anxiety I'm experiencing today is not good. I guess I don't identify with anyone right now. Maybe if I can ever figure out my identity, I'll have a clue. Yanno, this is just a couple of rough weeks I think because I KNOW there have been times when I said or thought "I totally GET that person" or whatever. Aren't you just so flippin' glad I came back? heh

Dagoth ~ I actually like the kind of dorks the guys in the show were so... :) Will look for the book series!

Lovely Cats ~ Or two old ladies from "Steel Magnolias"

GNG ~ I can see that. It was tough for me not to choose Charles, myself, but the other two won out bigger picture.

$$ ~ I can see you as the Bull Durham character ~ Crash? ~ but I don't know the book. It's another one I'll look for.

Get Off My Lawn! ~ SO many new books to read!!! I'm loving this!

Rose ~ Perhaps you just simply and completely yourself and no one else. Not a bad claim to fame. ;) Although I would pay money to see you as a talkshow host!

Traci ~ Yes, I'm glad you came back. Always. :)

Since I've been on the road the last few days, I'm a little behind.

I feel like this is a toadish answer, but the truth. I pick two characters as well, Arwen and Eowyn from Lord of the Rings. First of all it is my fantasy to run around in amazing dresses doing important things. That silly frivolousness set aside, they are both amazingly strong and powerful women doing amazing things all for the survival and good of Middle Earth. I'd like to think that I make a difference in the world around me, even if it isn't so grandiose.

okay, this one took me a while (and you thought this was unthinky). I would have to go with Walker Boh from the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. He never really wants to do anything but be a hermit, but ends up in the thick of things and having to take charge (hating every minute of the spotlight but doing it none-the-less). There is a great deal more about him I identify with but it would be quicker to read one of the books than explain it here.

Simon, from Lord of the Flies.
